Brazos Bend State Park – Texas

Well, Nina and I finally made it to Brazos Bend State Park – well worth the trip. It is a popular Texas State Park near Houston. It has an interesting mix of Grasslands, wetlands, oak forests, hardwood bottoms and small lakes. It also has a great campground with more than 200 sites and plenty of well marked and maintained trails.

The late winter Texas weather continued to be a little schizophrenic. We started comfortably in shorts and short sleeves, only to be forced into pants and long sleeves. Later, about a mile and a half from our jeep we were wishing we were in shorts again.

Great photo opportunities for birds, alligators and other critters. This 10-12 foot alligator made Nina jump. I think I figured out how he got so big. He must eat hikers. His nose was right next to the trail. Nina jumped because we were busy watching the water edges for alligators and almost walked right in front of him.

Here are some of the pictures we took while at the park.
